About 12:20 a.m. after ringing in the new year I was putting our kids to bed. We looked out their window which faces east to watch the fireworks. We were watching them and I noticed my husband below us in the yard as he was checking on our dogs. He was also looking east towards the Wasatch Mountain (a bit south of Mount Olympus). As I looked up to see what he was looking at I saw a handful of orange lights. At first I thought it was a bunch of small wildfires on the mountain started by fireworks but snow covered the mountains. I then realized these were too high to be on the mountain. The lights would move around slowly and deliberately. Some would fade out and others ascended upwards. It scared my boys and I was very unnerved myself. I opened their window and hollered to my husband asking him if he was seeing what I was seeing. Indeed he was. I grabbed my phone to take pictures but the lights were too faint at that point to be picked up on the phone. I'm a big skeptic of stories of aliens visiting earth or UFOs but there is no logical explanation for this. Even my very level-headed husband is mystified. I stopped watching when I realized my reaction was scaring my kids. I tried to convince them it was hot air balloons or something watching fireworks and their flames were going off and on. We closed the blinds and I put them to bed. I'm very unnerved by the whole thing and wish there was a logical answer.
