Sighting Details

I was in my backyard barbequeing some chicken. The time was about 6:55 pm. I know this as I always check time so as to turn the meat every 5 to 10 minutes. One of my favorite things to do is star gaze, so my backyard was unlit to enhance the clearsky viewing opportunity of this night. The moon is currently a waxing crescent size and shape so little light was coming from it. I was sitting in a chair looking at the sky when 3 objects came into view heading east. They were moving at the same speed and glowed a dim red-orange color. They were in a triangle with a single light in front and the other 2 in the rear, spaced equally apart and in an unwavering formation as if they were part of a single object. At first I thought they were ducks or geese which do fly at night sometimes. But I quickly noticed a lack of wings flapping and the objects moved in a straight line whereas birds moving quickly tend to move in erratic formations. I was a bit flabbergasted and awestruck at what I had just witnessed. I went into my house to tell my wife. She almost immediately pulled up a story of sightings on New Years of this year in Sacramento. As the lights came into view I was absolutely locked in to them. I lost sight of the lights as my view was blocked by a building that abuts my backyard. The time elapsed was about 20 seconds
