Approx. time was 10:30pm mid-late November. Fairly clear sky with some clouds. I usually step out in the late fall evenings to have a cigar and watch for "shooting stars". We get a lot of north to south air traffic heading to Detroit Metro Airport but their fairly low on approach and loud in our area. We also have a local airport about 3 miles north east of us in Troy, MI and that airport has a lot of news helicopter traffic. I was on the back porch of my hose which faces due south and coming from the west I noticed an outline of what appeared to be a very large, fast moving hourglass shaped object. At first I thought I got lucky and spotted the International Space station passing over. Once I quickly realized that the object was BELOW the clouds, I tried to scale its size by looking at surrounding objects (I am an industrial model maker and have a very strong sense of scale and object size relation). The object never changed direction and continued east til out of sight. I remember thinking "this is very strange, it made no sound approaching and no sound as it passed AND it is clearly below the clouds". It was 100% hourglass shaped, illuminated around the edges and the negative space within those edges was a very faint hazy glow. I got in my car to see if I could follow but the object was out of sight. I was a bit confused by what I saw. Put up a post on Cragslist that night but nobody else mentioned seeing anything like it. Someone joked that it was the grim reaper. Not my first time seeing something odd in the sky in Michigan but this was by far the closest.
