I had just clocked off work at 2200 and was walking to my car. The car park is ringed with trees. At first low on the horizon, I could see the object through the branches. Originally I thought it was a helicopter with its brightly flashing lights, but as it cleared the trees I realized it was absolutely silent and it wasn't emitting a regular flash, and there were no other white or blue lights. Instead, and the best description I can give, is that it was as a bright pink to red 'welding arc' emitting small sparks from itself as it moved from the southwest to the northeast. I lost sight of the object as trees on the far side of the car park obscured my view. It wasn't like a firework in that it's intensity and its direction of travel did not vary, from the time I first noticed it; as it was overhead; and as it carried on out of my view. I stood for a moment to absorb what I had seen. I'd never seen anything like this before, and haven't since.
