Sighting Details

My daughter and I were in our hot tub at about 9:10pm on Mon, May 5th. (I usually star gaze while soaking). After soaking for I'd guess 30-40 min a bright star-like light caught my eye in what I'm thinking was the n.east to east section of the sky. The light became brighter quickly, then it dimmed and was gone. I kept staring, thinking I'd see a faint star or some light source, but there was nothing left in the spot to explain what it was. My daughter asked me if it could've been a star burning out. I told her it might be. Not long after that my daughter pointed over to the northern sky and said "what is that? ?". As I turned my head I caught a bright light out of the corner of my eye. She stood up and said that she saw a light brighten as it moved from left to right -just over our rooftop. She said it zig-zagged before disappearing. It was the exact same brightening then dimming that I saw in the n. east. I am not not sure what it was we saw in the sky tonite, but I am not aware of any aircraft that are capable of moving that quickly in different directions, then completely disappearing. Also I would like to say I did not see any red lights at any time (such as aircraft are required to have) only white lights. I feel like I saw something that I cannot explain & it intrigues me. I do not feel scared or tremendous excitement- but I feel the need to understand what I saw and I'd like to know what other witnesses have to say.
