Sighting Details

At this time, I was living in Independence Oregon, and commuting to work in Corvallis Oregon. This was about a 30 minute drive on a 2-lane highway through the countryside, and since I worked graveyard shift, there was often very little traffic. This was the case on the night in-question; my friend/co-worker and I were returning home from work at approximately 4:00 AM, and at this time did not notice a single other vehicle on the road. I was driving, and suddenly my attention was drawn to movement in my peripheral vision. Looking out the driver's-side window, I was amazed to see a huge glowing blue sphere moving slowly through the sky. This blue sphere (a similar shade of blue as the light on an "Indiglo" wrist watch) was surrounded by green flames, and left a green flame "trail" behind it as it moved. This object appeared to be quite large and moving at what seemed to be a fairly low altitude. While I had observed a large number of "star-like" objects moving unusually during this time period, I had never before seen anything like this. Afraid I was hallucinating or losing my mind, & immediately smacked my friend on the shoulder, pointed out my window, and asked: "Do you see that?!" My friend leaned over and looked up and out the driver's-side window, as his jaw dropped and his eyes widened. "Holy... sh**!!" was all he replied. "What do you see?" I asked him. "It's like a huge blue ball with green flames!" he exclaimed. Confident now that this was indeed really happening, we both watched in amazement as this strange object slowly cruised past us and disappeared over the tree-line of the hills ahead of us. The next day, other co-workers mentioned a news report that day of a meteor landing in a school playground in Portland Oregon, which caused damage to the playground. I cannot corroborate the news story as any more than heresay, but the object we observed WAS heading North, in the direction of Portland. But it sure didn't look like any meteor or shooting star I have ever seen or heard of..
