Standing out in my backyard waiting for the dogs to have their last potty break before bedtime, looking northwest. Something catches my eye and I look up, thinking it might be a shooting star. It is not. It is not moving through the sky, but it is not still. It looks to be cone- or triangular-shaped and there are colored lights flashing around the bottom of it. The upper part just appears to be flashing bright then dim. I watched it for a few minutes, trying to determine if it was a case of double vision, but it was not. It was not moving like an aircraft of any kind, and did not look like the death throes of some light-years-distant star due to the colored lights at the bottom. I watched for several minutes. Did not go in and get my camera or phone as I was pretty sure with the distance and being dark, it would not show up. This is not the first time I have seen something similar in this same general direction. I finally just went in and went to bed.
