Sighting Details

I was driving West at about 7:07pm tonight and noticed three bright orange lights with odd purplish red corona hovering about 30 degrees off of the horizon, what appeared to be only a few thousand yards from where I was sitting at a stop sign. It's cloudy and sprinkling, so they couldn't have been too high up, it's hard to tell at night, but from the degree of movement across the sky it appeared they were fairly close to where I was sitting. They started moving in to a different formation very slowly, and two more floated up from the north to join them. The two moved in what appeared to be a straight line, equidistant from each other at the exact same speed. I pulled over, turned off my car and got out to watch. There was absolutely no sound, and they hovered for about 90 seconds before starting to move very precisely in a slow spiral going up and to the northwest. They all moved at precisely the same speed, and as they reached a certain point in the spiral one would break off and move in a straight line off to the northwest and just dwindle into nothing (I don't know if they were moving into the clouds or what). It took about 3 minutes for all five to fade out completely, but one would be gone before the next would move off. My mother in law and 4 year old son were in the car with me, and an SUV behind me stopped to ask what they were. |
