Outside on patio at 8:20 pm mild night with thin cloud cover. Looking to the sky to the north east saw incredibly bright object cross sky from northeast to southeast so fast it vanished in an instant, in complete silence. Due to cloud cover the edges appeared blurry, but it was oval shaped. It was much bigger than a shooting star and did not flicker the way they do or have a trail. It appeared to be the size of a penny or a dime, estimated about a mile away. I was amazed. Stood out there for five minutes listening and watching. There was no sound either with the object or afterwards. I realized I had seen a UFO. I saw one flash across the sky from west to east in Ohio in 1972, and one hovering in the Canyonlands of Utah where I was camping in the desert in 1975. This is the first one I have seen in Illinois.
