I was an Airman stationed at Holloman, AFB in the early 1980's. They broke the supply line down to the flight line, in order to get the parts they needed faster, and I volunteered to be the one to go.
I was assigned to the 9th AMU, the flying Knights, and it had the worst record on base for making their sorties. The Master Sergeant of the unit came to me, and we worked out a way to make the sorties they needed. We were making our sorties and then some!!!
Then, the Wing Commander, a full bird colonel, came in to introduce himself, and to congratulate us on making our sorties, and what was the secret. (He also at the time was the acting Base Commander.) I hemmed and hawed at the request, making up stuff, so we wouldn't get in trouble. (The MS would k-ball parts off another units jet! That's how we made our sorties!) He would come in at least once every other week, to see how we were doing and stuff. He would actually go into our supply room, and shot the breeze with me.
It was about the time that a UFO report documentary was being shown about the 1947 incident. He came in one evening, and we went to the supply room, and a flight line mechanic was in there, I was going to ask him to leave and the Commander said it was ok that he was there with me, and then he asked me if I believed in UFO's because of the documentary. I said that I didn't know either way. He then proceeded to tell us the following:
"In 1964, I was just an Airman then, and we had a UFO land, and exchanged occupants, and other things." He said he saw all this, and that if we ever told anyone, that he would deny it, and it would hurt his career. He also said to "Never believe the Government in Regards to there being No UFO's, he said that they are real, and that the Government doesn't want people to know."
I never even heard of a 1964 landing at that base, until YEARS later, try until the Internet!!! Then, just for the heck of it, I typed it in, and up it came!!! I was stunned!!!
