Sighting Details

New Years Eve, at 5 minutes after midnight, I thought what the heck, I would go out of my mobile home and enjoy the local fireworks. Funny, no one else on my street was out. As I looked to the East where the local firework display was happening...lots of booms, flairs, skyrockets etc...and then there was the large red thing...I watched it thinking it was going to be a good one (display.) As it got closer I could see the shape was almost tree like, cone in fact with an oval base, red all over. The other fireworks were still happening, and I watched as this red one started to move toward the west in a straight line...funny, I thought, when will it explode? It just kept coming in a straight line...I watched fascinated, thought I should get my camera, but...then it might be gone, so I watched it for about 5 minutes just come ahead...at that time it just stopped, hovered for about a minute or more in one spot. No I don't know how far it was from me, but I figure it was about a mile to two miles away, and higher in the sky than the sky rockets were shooting up. Not quite as high as a jet flying over either. Then it started to ascend straight up, then simply slowly winked out. I had thoughts of the space station lit up, but it was the wrong time of the night to see it, then I thought it was some sort of bomb, but no, it just kept its steady pace forward, hovered, then ascended upward. I felt nothing, heard nothing other than the local fireworks, gun shots and pan banging. Normal New Years sounds. I don't know what this was, but it was there..... Thank You,
