I am the Assistant State Director for Missouri MUFON and had my own sighting last night. My husband and I were leaving Bass Pro Shops in Independence, Missouri near 291 and 40 Highway when something caught my attention in the northwest sky at approximately 40 degrees from the horizon. I watched a very large flaming glowing orange fireball cross the sky from the northwest to the southwest in a straight-line path for six to eight seconds. It was perpendicular to the ground and never changed course. The object left no trail whatsoever and appeared to come to an abrupt stop, then fade out like a light bulb in less than two seconds. I did not hear a sound but did feel a strange vibration. There was nothing else in the vicinity (planes or helicopters) and the sky was clear. The object looked like a complete sphere that was made out of orange flames. The size was almost the size of a walnut held at arm's length. It appeared to be about 500-1,000 feet away from me but it is impossible to tell distance. Unfortunately, my husband did not see it as he was getting into the vehicle at the time and I did not have time to get my phone out to take a photo.
