I was sitting in my backyard at 11:30 PM enjoying a cigarette before bed while looking up at the stars. To the North at approximately 45 degrees from my location, one star caught my attention. It appeared still at first glance but noticed that it was getting brighter and moving away from me. It then disappeared, A split second it reappeared about inch or two to the left and continued heading north. I got up to tell my wife who was inside but as I stood, it disappeared again. I stopped walking and continued looking for it's return. It appeared again another one to two inches to the left of it's last exit point and continued traveling North until it reached outside of my view of the horizon.
I frequently see many satellites traverse the sky from my backyard. This was similar but different due to the continuously adjusting line of travel. The light was slightly brighter than a satellite and did have a trail like a small shooting star.
