I was watching TV and noticed this red object hovering to my left (SW). I live 30 yards from the cliff of the pacific ocean at the southern most tip of San Pedro 1/2 mile east of Point Fermin San Pedro. I have lived here for 9 years and know the difference between a helicopter & aircraft and know the colors of the lights. this object appeared to glow a bright red/orange color and did not travel in a straight line. It descended eventually into the ocean between Point Fermin park and Catalina Island. I thought it was a plane at first but the bright red color changed my mind immed. It never followed a straight line, I thought it might be a flare but it was stationary for a time then moved to the right then left etc. I knew that this was not any aircraft or helicopter for sure. I went to get my camera but it was not there when I returned :-(
