My wife and I were driving to work (Friday night at 9:45 pm 5-16-14) west on US 30 a few miles east of Rt. 21. Visibility was good. I saw what looked like new radio tower lights north of the road a mile ahead. Getting closer I asked my wife what she thought we were seeing. Five bright red lights were floating slowly across the road, maybe 500 feet up. They were at different altitudes and locked in formation with each other. The group must have been several hundred yards long. I slowed down to prolong the sighting. The lights appeared to me to be slightly vertically elongated, so as we passed under them I put my window down for less glass distortion, which didn't change their appearance. They were in a line from beneath, south of the road as we passed under. I heard no engines, props, etc. Five helicopters is absolutely out. Balloons/flares/toy hot air balloons--how were they keeping in line? Light was red--not yellow from a flame. Too slow--almost hovering--for planes. Way too long for any one craft. No sign of any inter-light rigging. I thought OK--Phoenix Lights rides again. I asked a cop at Wal-Mart if he'd heard any report on the radio and he said no--first he'd heard of it. Traffic was light, but some other cars had to have seen it. The group was drifting down from the direction of Massillon. I can't say what the wind was there but it was not noticeable at work a few minutes later.
