It was just after 9 pm and I was doing some laundry. I went outside to my deck to grab a pool towel that had been left outside the day before so I could wash it. As I walked outside I noticed three lights in the corner of my eye. Initially I had thought that I was simply seeing Orion's belt as it was a very clear night and the formation the lights were initially in was a very similar looking pattern. As I turned my head toward the lights however, I quickly realized that I wasn't looking at stars at all. The three red lights were much brighter and much larger than any stars in the sky. Then, I thought that maybe they were flares of some sort, but they were steady and unwavering as I would expect from a flare and I couldn't see any smoke or chute attached. At this point they started moving across the sky. As they moved they also changed formation a bit. They started as close to a line formation but as they moved the middle one moved below (relative to my perspective) the west most light. They were shaped as more of a triangle at this point. They traveled towards they edge oft field of vision and then stopped once again. They were present for about 10 to 15 seconds longer and then one by one began to get smaller as though they were heading away from me and then disappeared from sight all together.
I really just want to know if anyone else saw anything that night. It seems unlikely that I could be the only one outside to witness lights as bright as these were.
