About 4 am this morning (July 18, 2014) I happened to step out on my deck which overlooks a portion of the valley SW of Monroe, WA. It was dark with either no or high, thin cloud cover. At first I thought I was seeing a large plane -- by all intents it appeared to have a wing span, although no shape definition in the dark -- with red lights at outer ends, but after a few seconds I noticed a few things which took it out of "plane" category: (1) absolutely no sound, and for a craft this size (and that close) there should have been something (2) It wasn't traveling fast enough to be a plane. For about 2 minutes it practically hovered over the valley and over the course of 4 min it "drifted" SW till it went out of view. (3) There was an "array" of other smaller lights "twinkling" on it, giving it an overal shape of either a boomerang or disc. The smaller lights were sort of sparkling in various places sequentially.
I grabbed binoculars and leaned into a post to try to get a solid view, but it wasn't any more conclusive than naked eye.
I don't know what this was. I'm not going to say it was this or that, I'm just saying it was not like any plane I've ever seen, and absolutely soundless. Was really cool to watch.
