Sighting Details

We were on top of a nearby mountain watching the Delta Aquariid meteor shower. Then out of nowhere a massive ball of comet-like light appeared in the distance. Initially we thought it might be a fireball of some sort related to the shower. Then the object began to fan out in a slightly diagonal formation as the lights broke off from the original source. Then as a group the lights changed course and direction which resulted in a slight decrease in the intensity of the light and then appeared to patrol nearby mountains. Eventually one of the objects could be seen coming straight at us! The object then flew directly overhead a few hundred feet above us at least. Accompanied with it was a strange roaring sound slightly similar to that of a jet plane. I recall a shape that seemed slightly like a three-dimensional octagon with a red triangle of light on its side. My feelings associated with the object was of surprise, amazement, and awe. I had no doubt it was something extremely alien to me. And I had the strange sensation that it was "reading" my thoughts as it's movement seemed to reflect my feelings of it. I should also note that time seemed to slow down incredibly. I lost sight of the group of lights as they disappeared behind a group of mountains in the distance. As for the single object that flew directly over head this object disappeared beyond the horizon of mountains in the opposite directions (due east) of its companions.
