Sighting Details

I was driving back from the famous Gold Coast region of South - East Queensland to my home in Brisbane, the state capitol and I had just descended down a slope which continued as a very straight section of the highway. I turned to the right and noticed that the pre-dawn light was softly illuminating the sky and trees. I looked up and noticed a very large Cumulonimbus calvus cloud which was also being slightly lit from the pre-dawn light. As I drove straight ahead something caught my eye and I looked up to see a rotating circle of lights descending through the cloud. At this point I would like to mention that I was a professional commercial and scientific photographer which deals with the study of the behavior of light. The lights were somewhere between a spotlight and a floodlight and dispersed through the cloud wider at the bottom. I am fairly sure there were eight lights. They rotated clockwise looking up at them. They took about 2 seconds to complete a full rotation. At no time did I actually see the object itself which was hidden above the cloud. I estimate it would have been at about 5000 feet and the circle of lights were about 6 inches wide at arm's length.... so must have been a large object. After I had observed it for about one minute it suddenly did a pitch and yaw movement and then ascended back up above the cloud. The sky was clear apart from that one big cloud.
