It was 12:12am and my wife and I were walking home from a Christmas Eve Party. The sky was very clear and I was looking up at the stars when I noticed a light back over my shoulder. It was maybe four times bigger than Jupiter or Venus in the sky. My first thought was that it was an airplane, but it was moving way too fast. I called my wife's attention to it and she saw it too. It was difficult to estimate the altitude, but I would guess it was somewhat lower than where the airliner's fly, but it was moving so fast I kept thinking it was must have been lower to move across the sky like that. The light was a pale yellow, almost white and it had an irregularity to the way the light looked. The edges looked indistinct. It wasn't pulsating, just irregular. I made an effort to see if there were any blinking lights as they are required on aircraft and there were none. The whole observation lasted about 7 seconds and then it was gone behind some trees. From my viewpoint, it covered a 90 degree arc across the sky.
I would guess it was going 3 to 4 times faster than a airliner, 1500mi/hr or so.
I then started trying to figure out what it was or wasn't:
1) meteor - no trail, no sparks and flew level, it wasn't coming down. Also too slow for a meteor.
2) Plane - too fast and no blinking lights. Perhaps a jet fighter flying low could have appeared to go that fast, but it would have made a lot of noise and this made none. And I've never seen a plane put out that kind of light.
3)And it wasn't Santa or Rudolf! Reindeer can fly that fast! Truly, I did think of that in the moment, but this is no joke, this happened.
