Sighting Details

Could not sleep so I went out to have a smoke. Looking at the stars and noticed 3 lights together. At first I thought it was landing lights as a airport is nearby. Then thought it was a helicopter from the coast guard, as I live by the Gulf of Mexico. Lights did not move for over 20 minutes and do not know of any helicopter that can hold station that long. Lights were as bright as landing lights size of my thumb at arms length. No sound was heard. Location is south of Venice Florida. As it was dark I could only guess distance about 1 mile. No sound was heard and where I am it is easy to here all aircraft in area taking off or landing. I was puzzled by the sighting and hesitated to report it. And I am hoping MUFON can give me an answer.Lights were in a very slight triangle, 2 white on left side and slightly offset red light all the same size and brightness. They never moved the entire time, bearing WSW. No picture taken because of lack of light to get a good photo, and viewed through binoculars could not see outline because of how bright lights were. 10/50 binoculars. I am reporting this because you have also had reports from Venice Florida which is about 30 miles north of my location. Orion was high up about 45 and object was about 10 degrees.
