I was not the observer. My father in law who was duty head of the Rome Air Development Center at Griffiss AFB mentioned this event to me years ago. He was up at an AF pilot radar site on the top of the Mohawk Valley at night running a test I think back in the early 70s and saw a UFO over the base below. He talked to the base control the next day and there was no traffic or radar echos. He is a trained electrical engineer who had a long and distinguished career as a civilian researcher for the Air Force and is now long retired. He is 90 years old and dealing with Parkinson's disease but lives in an assisted community near Rome NY. He might be open to discussing what he saw...if you email him. He shared with me this story about 20 years ago, he mentioned it matter of factly and said he never really knew what he saw..and did not share the entire story with me as he didn't want to be thought of as a UFO nut. His name is Thomas Maggio and you can check his background. The radar site is still there operated by the FAA. Again if you want to reach out to him, I can give you his email address. I think he would welcome communication on this event. Thanks, Mike Fedele
