Address object observed from: 560 E South Temple Salt Lake City, UT 84102
Time of observation: 2/28/2014, Between 11:50 am - 12:00 pm
I was leaving a get together with some friends on the night of February 28th, 2014. It had just finished raining and there were patches of clouds in the sky. I looked up to the sky in the east and noticed an orange light moving along a meandering path from south to north above the city.
The light appeared to be a consistent ball or sphere of bright, orange light which illuminated the clouds around it brightly and left a trail behind it as it moved. At first I was under the impression that my vision had become blurry or that I was not seeing correctly due to the trail of light and aura the object gave off. I rubbed my eyes to clear them but noticed no change in my vision and the object persisted in the sky.
The object initially moved back and forth in the sky with no apparent direction, moving farther north as I watched but not more than a mile. The path did not seem to take it any great distance and it appeared to be staying in a general area, covering a portion of sky above the city.
The object appeared to be at least as high as a propeller driven plan would typically fly above a city, a few hundred feet. Likewise, it appeared to be no farther than a mile or two distant as the object seemed to be the size of a pencil eraser or aspirin in the sky. Likewise, it appeared larger than a remote controlled model plane or helicopter.
The object gave no apparent sound as it moved, no noise indicating a propeller or rotor was audible. After a minute or so of observation the light ascended into the clouds above it and disappeared.
This incident was caught on an iPhone 4S. Most of it was recorded save for a few moments after the initial sighting. You will notice the light blinking, this is due to its moving behind the branches of the tree I was standing in front of. The first portion of the video consists of the recording of the object. The second portion does not show the object, the camera was left on as I walked in the event that the object became visible once more.
