Sighting Details

On December 25th, 22014 at approximately 7:15 p.m.I was walking my dog on the beach in Monterey. I noticed something way off in the distance to the Northeast. It was headed towards Monterey from the Santa Cruz area. As I continued to watch it coming closer, I noticed it looked like a bonfire in the sky. As it got closer, I was concerned for a bit that it was a plane on fire ready to explode. There is an airport about two miles south. Then I realized it was not an airplane or a helicopter, because when it was overhead and to the right of me it stopped completely still for about 45 seconds...or longer. I was not scared, just completely amazed and stunned because it was a big fireball in the sky that had travelled all the way what seemed to be slowly and evenly across the Monterey Bay from the Northeast to the Southwest and came to a complete stop right above me....making no sound. What happened next was really surprising.....it went straight up into the sky. Not fast - not left or right - straight up. As it ascended it got smaller and smaller and suddenly - and sadly :( disappeared. It was a very clear, beautiful night -- not a cloud in the sky. When it disappeared I felt like I saw a little cloud or puff of fog - even though the sky was without a cloud or fog.Needless to say, it was utterly amazing.
