Walking back to my home on property i looked up and saw what i thought was the first star of the night. The sun had set already and there were a few small elongated clouds near the horizon but it was still light enough and clear enough to see a clear sunset. The bright light I thought was a star or maybe even a reflection of a aircraft. I walked into the house and went to a west window where I observed the bright light still in its location> Not Moving It did appear to be just hanging in the air motionless. It was a great distance away, twenty miles, probably the next town over, maybe more. I then got a pair of binoculars and got it in view for about a minute. At that point the object accelerated leaving behind the widest and most colorful contrails I have ever seen, now I thought it could be a meteor. This lasted for less then ten seconds and when the object reached the thin cloud bank it made a 90 degree turn to the right (to the nw)in the cloud bank leaving a solid contrail at a incredible speed and disappeared. This was all observed at a distance of at least twenty miles away. The time that the object started moving to the time it disappeared was less then twenty five seconds.
My background for the past forty years has been in aviation as a mechanic and I know aircraft and how they move, this was something that was not of our design.
