Sighting Details
I was driving car with girlfriend next to me. Driving north on Rt. 28 approx 4 miles north of Dulles Airport. Girlfriend suddenly said " Hey look!" She pointed to my left [ west] We both watched a squadron of yellow/orange lights moving together in similar direction as us [ north ]. They were in a non uniform, scattered pattern 5 to 8 lights top to bottom and maybe 15 to 20 lights side to side. 25 to 30 lights total. They did not blink or have other lights that blinked. Lights all stayed on and at same brightness. We traveled about 1 mile at 55 mph while watching lights. If these were the size of small aircraft they would have been 3 to 5 miles away. It was completely dark and I don't know how large they were. The group of lights was traveling faster than we were and were heading from VA, Airspace toward Maryland. Perhaps over Leesburg or Purcelville. Upon seeing lights I rolled window down. There was no sound. When we took ramp to head west on Rt. 7 we should've been aiming right at the lights but they were completely gone. All we could see in sky were 2 regular aircraft with blinking lights traveling from north to south. They were low and headed toward Dulles Airport. People on those planes would also have seen what we saw. That's all I have. I grew up in this area and never saw this before. Without blinking lights they did not resemble the normal and constant sightings of regular aircraft and I never saw group like this moving together. I'll be glad to report more if anything else happens. Thanks for having this site.
