Appeared as a translucent orb, shiny red. What was peculiar is that inside the sphere it appeared to be a fire burning. That's what attracted my attention and I immediately began rational analysis of what I was seeing. The visual information made no sense. The best way to describe what my mind identified it as would be "a floating translucent orb balloon with fire inside taking up about 3/4 of interior space, filling bottom but not filling top 1/3". It traveled slowly from east to west, but at a perfectly horizontal level. Then appeared to go directly north (away from me) more rapidly, disappearing from view within about 15 seconds by seeming to get smaller and smaller. Unable to guess distance, passed behind a tree which is about 20' away. There is a tower with light some miles at a distance that flashes a red light constantly and makes a good comparison, and that light is much smaller than the orb. Took place at night, so could not tell if it passed in front of tower, but was at elevation different from tower light. Full moon was at about 4 o'clock relative to me, object moved from about 2 o'clock to about 11 before appearing to move directly away (which I infer because object seemed to shrink to pinpoint and disappear).
