Sighting Details

I was camping near a river going towards Virginia beach, the campsite was near the rivers edge. I look over the water towards the east and saw a bright light in the sky. The light moved to my left, which would be north. It was less than 1 second. Then moved back again to point of origin on the east side of the river. Then hovered for a few seconds at its original location, then it moved back towards the north and made a sharp left turn and hovered over the highway. The highway was towards Virginia beach. I drove to the location of where it was hovering over the highway. I parked on the shoulder and tried to flash lights at it ( no response ) Then I tried the AM/FM radio I did receive radio stations, but was not able to hear and abnormalities on the radio. The date and time of the incident is hard for me to pin down exactly. I believe it was in the late 70's at night during the fall summer or spring, definitely not in the winter, between 9:00pm and 11:00PM. The Light was on the east side of the river, moving back and forth in less than a second with no sound. Then it crossed the river and stood stationary over the highway close to the campgrounds. I do not know the size because I was not sure of the distance from me. The light from it was stable and did not flash or blink, the light was white, to my eyes. The size of the light I would suggest was aprox. 300 feet in diameter.
