Sighting Details

I was in my room looking out the window (I thought I heard my husband pull into the driveway and wanted to check), I noticed two lights in the sky that were blinking red and blue, and occasionally turning green for a moment. I thought they might be helicopters looking for something or someone, so I watched them for a moment, and they started moving VERY strangely. They zipped around at various speeds, almost like they were chasing one another, then they both disappeared over the horizon. I kept watching for a few minutes until I decided they were gone. After about 10 minutes I decided to check again, and one was back! It hovered, then zipped, then floated downward, then zipped again, then it came very close and seemed to be directly overhead. By this time I'd gone outside to get a closer look. My husband had come home by then as well, and he said "It must be a helicopter or airplane." I asked him why there was a silent aircraft flying in such a weird speed/pattern over the suburbs at 10:30pm, and he had no answer. Eventually the light flew away from us and disappeared, and I checked again frequently but never saw it again. I'm very skeptical of virtually all UFO sightings (I think there's a rational explanation 99.9% of the time), so I'm terrified that I have no explanation for this. Someone suggested a kite with LED lights, but it moved too great of a distance for that (in my opinion). Maybe someone flying model airplanes at night for some reason?
