Sighting Details

Sitting in my living room watching a movie with my parents, wife and daughter, when I saw a bright orange light through the curtains. Went out the front door to see what it was. We all saw two reddish orange lights in the sky moving in unison. Most of us were excited to see the lights, though my daughter was frightened. Unlike lights on an airplane these lights did not blink. Thy were about 45 degrees above the horrizon. Placing my hand infront of my face as reference I could get four fingers between the two points of light. We bserved the lights for about 30 seconds before being obscured in low cloud cover. My mother noted the time at 8:55 pm. We estimate the lights moved slowly from 30 degrees to 50 degrees NE towards the North. The two lights seemed to have a very slight downward movement. The North most light faded and the second light faded about five seconds later when it reached the same point in the sky. Guessing I would say the lights were one to two miles away but very difficult to determine with such heavy clouds. No sounds were heard. We all thought the lights may have been flares attached to parachutes. Why someone would do this close to 9 am at night in bad weather seems odd. The unison they moved in also seemed odd and disapeering at the same point in the sky seems strange as well. Hopefully someone knows or saw something to better explain my families sighting.
